Not all Collagen Supplements are Created Equal!
If you are like me, you are feeling like your skin just isn’t how it used to be. As I hit 40 (and beyond…) I felt my skin change, and good lord my joints are not what they used to be. Standing in the lift at work, surrounded by mirrors and you see every little sag and line.
Collagen, the most abundant protein in the body, is a crucial building block for hair, skin and nails. And as we age its level drop, it sticks and bunches together, like Velcro. And it becomes fragmented, and these fragments block the production of more collagen.
Lisa and I have looked at the collagen on the market, and there is a lot of it. Yet another confusing category for us all to navigate. We set out to find the very best collagen we could find. One with clinical evidence so we know it will work. This is what we found.
Not all collagen supplements are created equal.
Many collagens on the market face challenges related to absorption and effectiveness.
The Challenge of Collagen Absorption
To understand why some collagen supplements may not be as effective, we need to understand how collagen works. Collagen is a large protein molecule that, when ingested, needs to be broken down into smaller peptides and amino acids in the digestive tract for absorption into the bloodstream. Many collagen products on the market are not effectively broken down, or even make it through the stomach, leading to poor absorption and very little impact on skin or joint health.
Why we picked Verisol® Collagen.
Verisol® collagen peptides are specifically hydrolysed, breaking down the collagen into bioactive peptides that are more easily absorbed by the digestive system. This process enhances the body’s ability to absorb collagen, allowing it to be effectively utilised by the body. Verisol® is different to other products through its scientifically backed claims, supported by a number of clinical studies.
Supporting Clinical Studies
Several studies have demonstrated the efficacy of Verisol® collagen:
- Study on Skin Elasticity: A notable study published in Skin Pharmacology and Physiology in 2014 investigated the effects of Verisol® on skin elasticity. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involved 69 women aged between 35 and 55 years. Participants who took 2.5 grams of Verisol® daily exhibited significant improvements in skin elasticity at four and eight weeks compared to those who received a placebo. This marks a crucial difference, as improved skin elasticity can indicate healthier, more resilient skin.
- Study on Wrinkle Reduction: Another important clinical study, published in the Journal of Medicinal Food in 2014, highlighted Verisol®'s impact on wrinkles. In this study, 114 women aged 45-65 consumed Verisol® daily. After eight weeks, a significant reduction in eye wrinkle volume was observed in participants taking Verisol® compared to the placebo group. Furthermore, an increase in pro-collagen and elastin levels was noted, indicating the body's enhanced ability to support skin structure.
- Nail Study: Verisol® has also been shown to positively affect nail health. A study published in 2017 involved a group of women with brittle nail syndrome. After 24 weeks of daily Verisol® intake, they experienced a 42% decrease in broken nails and a 10% increase in nail growth rate.
While many collagen supplements do not survive the digestive journey to deliver tangible benefits, Verisol® collagen’s unique formulation and clinically validated advantages made it a no brainer for us to use in Revival. We ensure we select the best ingredients at clinical doses for all the Eir Women products, and we are very excited to share this one with you!
As always, consulting with a healthcare professional before starting any supplement regimen is recommended to ensure it aligns with your specific health needs.
